Onwards to Online!

DDALSG was founded four years ago, with the aim of making Adventurers League games accessible to all, and free from the influence of gatekeeping.

Since then, we have grown to become a robust, diverse and inclusive community, with more than 600 unique members on Discord.

In these four years, we had the pleasure of hosting numerous events for the community. We were the first in Singapore to run an officially sanctioned, Adventurers League legal Epic, and have since done so at multiple conventions. These same conventions were where we also premiered multiple adventures, including several CCCs.

Since 2017, we have been supporting selected game stores that we believed respected our Code of Conduct, organizing Dungeons & Dragons games at their venues. This helped generate greater awareness for local game stores, and also channeled traffic to them. By helping to sustain the game store ecosystem, we wanted to help ensure renewal and promote more wholesome gaming experiences across Singapore.

The Covid-19 situation has demonstrated that there is a demand for games that are available anytime, anywhere. With the current restrictions on social gatherings in Singapore, gaming online rather than at local game stores looks set to become the new normal.

We are elated to see stores attempting to develop their own customer bases and learning to adapt to online play of their own volition. This is great news as it means stores are growing on their own, and no longer rely on us to provide them with game masters, players and content

Rather than continuing to facilitate games for stores, we are shifting our focus to big picture things that can benefit the community as a whole.

So what are we doing?

Moving forward, we have designated Wednesdays, Fridays and Saturdays as our official weekly games days, and we welcome all who have joined our server to participate.

Fans of Eberron can look forward to exploring this arcanopunk setting on Wednesdays, while those who prefer high fantasy can journey through the Forgotten Realms on Fridays and Saturdays.

Sign-ups will be facilitated through the official DDALSG Warhorn, with sessions conducted through Discord voice chat with dice bot support, and Roll20

To help our community level up as game masters, players and creators, we will also be holding more frequent talks and webinars on selected Saturday evenings every month. These sessions will cover a wide range of topics including character and content creation, game mastering, gameplay tips, and workshops for writing and publishing your own D&D content.

We will also be hosting online conventions in the third and fourth quarters of the year, with exclusive content planned for release during these events. More information will be available at a later date.

As part of our plans for the community, you can also expect some updates to our Code of Conduct, with clarifications for online play and expectations of behaviour. We hope that these will help make games a more pleasant experience for all.

One such change will be the inclusion of a no-advertising rule from now on. This includes personally messaging other members of the server or soliciting visitors to another server through sharing links. Those that wish to advertise must apply for approval from the moderation team, which will be considered on a case-by-case basis.

Expect more to come in the next few weeks, and be sure to join us on Discord so that you do not miss out on any further announcements from us. We would love to hear if you have any feedback on how we can make games more accessible and fun for everyone.
